Cookout Cooks Up Encouragement

A barbecue cookout among PNR RailWorks coworkers and families honored John Gilroy (holding envelope), who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Barbecue might just be one of the greatest of comfort foods, and comfort – along with support and fun – was apparent when PNR RailWorks fired up the grills in a fund-raiser for one of its own.

Employees from both the Signals & Communications and Track divisions in Guelph, Ontario, along with their families and local suppliers, turned out to support S&C’s John Gilroy, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

John, who works as a signalman, was “overwhelmed by the generosity” extended. The event included a raffle with prizes donated from suppliers Primary Electrical, JayChris, Milrail, Scutt Signs, Acklands Grainger and Vantage Apparel, as well as PNR RailWorks, which also donated the food and drinks sold at the event.  Shop Foreman Brett Partridge won a “50-50 draw” onsite but donated his winnings to John.

The barbecue was part of a broader fund-raising drive that included donations from throughout PNR RailWorks. Project Manager Dave Challis, who planned the event, said the outpouring was indicative of “the quality of employees and the culture PNR RailWorks has established over the years.”
